Study Skill Challenges

How To Help Children And Youth With Study Skill Challenges Or Have Difficulty Knowing How To Learn

Without help, many very intelligent children & youth have trouble learning. Learning how to learn and how to study something can stop the spiral into more and more school challenges which affect future learning, living, social relationships. When children & youth do not do well in school their behavior patterns eventually get self-destructive or overly aggressive. Self-concept and self-esteem can be eroded when learning and succeeding is difficult. Children & youth can come to believe that they are stupid and that trying to learn is a waste of time. Study skill challenges can be due to and complicated by a combination of factors including: lack of instruction on how to learn; being ill and missing important lessons; being frightened of making a mistake; living in a chaotic and frightening environment; family patterns; being teased or called stupid; not being carefully taught; intellectual abuse as well as abuses of all kinds; genetics; vision/hearing challenges; memory challenges; perceptual challenges; nutritional imbalances; exposure to environmental pollutants.
