Low Performance Schools

How To Help Children And Youth that Attend Schools With Low Performance

Without help, attending such schools can be very dangerous for children & youth and their future. Besides not being able to gain necessary skills or to catch up on missing skills, children & youth can lose their curiosity and may not develop necessary life-long learning skills. Without success, they can develop low self-esteem as learners. Moving to another school may be a good option, but may not be possible. Low school performance is often due to and complicated by: society and governments not spending enough money on hiring and effectively supervising enough good teachers, programs and equipment. The lack of community political will and finances for safe school environments, catch-up, remedial, or extra support programs is also a factor. Low school performance can also be affected by and contribute to student violence, drug and alcohol use. Too often, low school performance is blamed on parents and families for not effectively preparing and supporting their children & youth. Research is showing that nutritional imbalances and exposure to environmental pollutants also have importance in school performance.
